Learn About Our Faith
Part of what makes our program so unique and successful is our foundation on faith. Brigham Young University is a private Christian school owned and operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (colloquially known as "Mormons"). Most students who attend this University are faithful members of the LDS Church and regularly attend worship services, church meetings and activities, and perform service projects. Because the LDS Church does not have a paid clergy, all church members— including the students at BYU— fulfill their religious responsibilities voluntarily as an act of service. This is a little bit different from most other Universities because the majority of students put their schoolwork and career second to their most important obligations, church and family. The students are also very different from other University students in the way they act and dress— they do not drink, act or dress promiscuously, or speak crude language.
As a result, our students are diligent, responsible, honest, and trustworthy. They are not only very talented at what they do, but they prioritize their lives to be in line with the balanced kind of life they desire to live. Many of our students have also served full-time missions (a non-paid, voluntary 1.5 - 2 year period dedicated to service), and therefore know firsthand the effect that faith has on their lives and the lives of those they taught.
